Hard work is good work

Marr College welcomed Kelvinside Academy to the playing fields for their first fixture against each other. Marr had been hard pushed to field a team during the week, with 9 players unavailable due to injuries or holidays. Marr began the match with several players out of position under the rallying call from Captain to work hard for each other. It was not long before the captains words were tested when Kelvinside broke through to score the first try of the match. Marr reacted quickly, and earned a well worked try by building phase after phase of play to let (HH) hand off and finish a good team try. This was quickly followed by some excellent interplay between the two Marr centres to set (AR) free to score under the posts. Kelvinside sought out an equaliser through forward play, however some excellent play, game management by (HB) and some outstanding 1v1 try saving tackles by (CG) brought the half to a close.

The interval was a timely break for both teams who had put so much effort into the first half. Marr began the second half with real dedication and ambition to work hard for each other. This was lead by (HB) directing his teammates and with a well placed kick ran in under the posts to score. Kelvinside were keen to retain the ball, however swift play by Marr scrum half (AF) let (HB) call a move from the paddock with some excellent handling by the midfield set (HH) loose and from the Marr 22 ran the length of the field supported by (CG) who accepted the pass to score under the posts. Marr were in fine fettle and seeking to see out the remainder of the game. Kelvinside had played well throughout the game and their number 12 lead from the front in the last ten minutes to score and assist on another. Marr won the match narrowly, but well deserved given the performance of 15 players to work really hard for each other. Marr College wish Kelvinside Academy every sucess for the remainder of their season and look forward to a match in S3.
