No dropped balls

Marr College visited Lenzie Academy for the first meeting between the two sides in a competitive fixture. The Marr team selection was bolstered by several players returning and some changes to playing positions.

Marr College keen to put the wheels back on the wagon after some indifferent performances over the past few matches, were pleased to run out on to an excellent playing surface. Marr started brightly with a dynamic and abrasive approach to controlling the ball and patiently working towards the try line, this was quickly rewarded with a bulldozer of a score by (AK). The variety of the play marshalled by (HB) was pleasing and exciting and with a neat chip over the Lenzie back line set (LSA) through to score. In his first appearance at scrum half (AF) was a constant source of quick ball which enabled (HB) to set free the new centre partnership who fed the ball to (FD) coming from deep and pace to score from halfway. Marr were dominating the game largely by dedication to keep the ball giving Lenzie little opportunity to impose themselves on the match. Lenzie becoming frustrated by the volume to tackles and no ball, lead to several infringements, started by (RI) quick tap and support run finally beating two defenders with great evasions skills to score in the corner (RI). Marr regathered and following several phases of play (RI) with a ghosting run beating several defenders finished under the posts.

The second half began with real vigour and determination from Lenzie, and were unlucky not to finish off a try in the corner. As the game progressed a "Magic Moment" evolved, (MA) secured the ball from a turn over, then sold the dummy and was fleet of foot beating several defenders before unselfishly popping to (RI) on a great support run to finish beside the posts. Marr's high tempo was taking its toll on Lenzie who demonstrated great team spirit to keep the score line to a minimum, however with Marr "not dropping balls" and executing skills to a high standard lead to additional second half trys for (AR). (HB), (FD), (AK x2).

Marr College had delivered an error free performance whilst keeping possession of the ball throughout the match, and did not reflect the effort or ambition Lenzie players had to play the game, and positive approach to the final whistle. Once the game had finished coaches acknowledged that Marr had a purple patch of a match and Lenzie had played well given recent Lenzie matches had been postponed and limited preparation.

Marr College wish Lenzie coaches and players every success for the remainder of the season and look forward to the return fixture.
