Marr S2 Rugby Vs Cumnock rugby S2

Marr S2 rugby welcomed the our Ayrshire neighbours Cumnock to Fullarton for the second and final friendly of the pending season. The game began with both teams setting up with 14 players (no Full back) and uncontested scrums. Marr were in a fortunate position to have had some consistency with players attending pre-season training during the holiday period in preparation. This was to the benefit of Marr who began the first half with real tempo and consistency of play resulting in trys from FD (5) BP (1) LS (1). The trys were all particularly pleasing, however the depth of running and speed on to a fine pass from SM led to a great line break from BP to score a fine try. Additionally, FD scored a fine try by taking an inside line over his opposite number to then finish near the posts. During the first half Cumnock showed real appetite to close the passing channels with some dogged defence and line speed, however the lines of running by SM, DT, AK, BP were relentless and marshalled well by scrum half LS.

At the beginning of the second half Marr deployed their bench, Cumnock entered the field with new resolve and on several occasions were very unlucky not to score. The Cumnock back line showed a real appetite and fleet of foot to sweep through the Marr defensive line and were stopped agonisingly close to the try line by some excellent covering defence by LSA,MA,AY, JH, HH and AK. During the second half Marr were equally ruthless in their finishing with some fine team and individual trys scored by HB (1) AR (2) AK (1) HH(1) RC (2).

Marr played extremely well throughout the game with some areas of improvement for the coaches to work on. Cumnock players also played there part in an exciting game with ruthless dedication to score, never giving up and for many periods of the game were very competitive which is perhaps not reflected on the final score.
