The SRU has introduced a Club Conference structure this season to get more boys playing more competitive matches. All the clubs who can run 5 sides (S1, S2, U15, U16, U18) are already in conferences while those such as Marr who aren’t running 5 club sides (as the S1, U16 and U18 sides are school only) will see their conferences start on 20th September. Before then the SRU has organised a number of ‘festivals’ one of which took place at Irvine. After the win over Jordanhill the day before we rested several players to give others a run out. Marr played 3 matches against Irvine, Kilmarnock and Garnock winning all 3. However, the games were very messy and Marr lacked discipline when playing less experienced players. The Kilmarnock match must have been one of the worst 20-0 wins ever seen with too many mistakes and the ball being allowed to bounce all over the place before someone claimed it. The coaches were far from happy as the squad as a whole had been working on key areas but, under pressure, these were forgotten and a style of play more reminiscent of Mini days returned. However, the day was a success with 3 wins and a chance for some of our less experienced players to get a run out and play some competitive rugby.
