Marr S2 vs Jordanhill

Since the dawn of time (well at least since the author was at school in the early 1980’s) the first school match has been Hutchesons, but no longer. This season the SRU has introduced a series of conferences to get boys from S1 to S6 playing more competitive rugby more often. Marr find themselves in the ‘Black Conference’ with Carrick Academy, Jordanhill, Lenzie Academy, Lomond, Morrisons, QVS, St Columba’s and Wellington. 5 sides (S1, S2, U15, U16 and U18) will all play with the results of all their matches counting towards a school league.

Saturday saw the first school match of the new-look season with Marr playing Jordanhill and S1-U15 at home. S2 took to Parc de S2 (the pitch nearest the Pavilion) to see if their pre-season training would pay off. The boys had worked hard during the week and this showed right from the first whistle through to the end as Marr won 47-0. Despite the score, Jordanhill worked hard and both put Marr under pressure at times and made the home side dig deep for every score. Some excellent tackling from the visitors reminded our bigger players that they could not just muscle their way through and need to look to offload to the support. Marr's shape both in attack and defence looked better as was the play at the breakdown.

Our win was the biggest S2 result of the day so I suppose we are top of the S2 league! It won’t last, next week we have a bye week while the other 8 schools play. Overall the school sit in 2nd place.
