Convincing win for Marr in final U18s game of the season

Convincing win for Marr in final U18s game of the season

Marr entertained Kelvinside Academy in the final 15s match of the season.. In cold and wet conditions Marr kicked off and soon put the visiting team under pressure. It wasn’t long before space was created for Evan Light, who because of injuries was starting the game at 13, sliced through the defensive line for Marr’s opening score. Calum Inglis added the conversion. 7-0 to Marr.

Marr continued to dominate the game at tackle and breakdown against a physically bigger Kelvinside team. Shortly after a quick tap penalty released Sean Nichol to score in the corner. 12 – 0.

Captain Kyle McCulloch then charged over after a break from Inglis and then Light scored his second. Both tries were converted by Inglis. This made the half time score 26-0 to Marr.

Straight from the kick off Marr were on the ascendency and good hands released Sean Nichol who ran in from 40 metres for a try converted by Inglis. Light then scored his hat trick with a try which Inglis converted to make the score 40-0.

With it being the final game of the season Marr made wholesale changes to allow a number of sixth years the opportunity to participate in their final school fixture.

To their credit Kelvinside responded with two converted scores to reduce the deficit to 40-14.

However, Marr had the final say, with Marr scoring the final try through Isaac Renucci to make the score 45-14.

A fantastic performance to end a really good season for the Under 18s. Schools Cup quarter finalists, losing to Dollar after beating cup holders Strathallan. Unbeaten in the Barbarian Conference. A number of the squad have already played for the 2nd XV since Christmas and it is hoped that depending on work/college placements a lot of the players will be available for Marr next season. It has been a privilege to be involved with such a great group of guys over a number of years. They have embraced the game plan put forward by coach Gregor Ness and assistant Rory McGee and have played some exhilarating rugby over the season. The future is indeed bright. It’s PURPLE AND GOLD!!
