Captains Day!

Marr U13s welcomed Greenock U13s to Fullarton for a friendly and the conditions were perfect for both sets of players. Marr were nervous given the results Greenock had been recording against other teams and Greenock had also won their T4 League.

The game was played at 15 a-side with both sets of coaches agreeing to play S1 rules. The fixture began with Greenock kicking to Marr, the ball was taken well by Marr forward (CP) and set up to release the Marr backs. The ball made its way to the Marr wing (CG) who beat the first defender before being tackled in to touch by the Greenock full back. Greenock lost their Line-out the ball was popped by the Marr scrum half (JH) to Marr forward (AK) who bulldozed his way through the Greenock defensive Line.

Conversion Successful by (RI) Marr (4) Greenock (0)

Greenock restarted the game and immediately looked to even the score with a searing run by the Greenock Full back only to be halted by his opposite number with a fine tackle. Greenock working hard at the breakdown, were making progress but did not commit to the next breakdown and the ball was turned over by the eventual Marr Man of the Match (CP). The ball was quickly passed to the Marr Stand off (AR) who cut through the Greenock defensive line and with a timely pass brought in the Marr Back line for outside centre (FD) to finish a pleasing team try.

Conversion Missed Marr (7) Greenock (0)

The Marr Captain for the past two years was playing his last home game as Captain, and was demanding more from his teammates. This was duly served up with a searing run up the wing by (AF) who offloaded the ball to Marr scrum half (JH) to evade a few tackles and dive over the line, under great pressure from the Greenock full back.

Conversion Succesful (RI) Marr (11) Greenock (0)

The game was being played in good spirt by both teams and as half time approached, many would feel that Greenock were unlucky not to have registered some points, with the continuity of their play providing good field position. However, the combination of persistent defence by Marr Forwards, resulted in a forward pass Marr Stand off took full advantage and broke through the middle of the Greenock defence before distributing a fine pass to (LS) who passed to his centre partner to finish near the posts.

Conversion Succesful (RI) Marr (15) Greenock (0)

Again from the restart Marr through several phases of play worked there way up the left hand side of the pitch. Greenock were resolute to prevent any further scores before half time and turned the ball over. Moments later Marr Forward (BC) arrived and blitzed two Greenock forwards from the ruck, this left Marr forward (RI) with good vision to pick and go just outside the Greenock 22 showing a trademark step to finish under the posts.

Conversion Succesful (RI) Marr (19) Greenock (0)

The Second half continued in a similar theme, with Greenock sticking to the task, which should be acknowledged! Marr continued with a pleasant mixture of try's from (JH), (FD 2), (LS 2), (RC 3) The Marr full back scored a special try worth mentioning and others such as (SN) on the wing had a great catch and run, (JH) vision to break down the blind and score a fine try.
