Marr vs Hutchesons' Match Report

The view from the touchline at the last 13-a-side match for the school S1 A team this season.

What a game ! What a game !

After a hard and evenly fought first half, the teams changed ends having scored 1 try apiece, (Marr’s from Cameron Mackenzie converted by Scott Stirton).

The second half saw Marr playing into a strong wind. After a pretty even first 5 minutes or so, the Hutchie backs cut loose twice to take their try count to 3 and their score to 10.

It would have been easy for the Marr boys' heads to drop at this stage. But the string of 10 School and Midi victories had clearly given the boys a great deal of self-belief. They stuck together and started to pile the pressure on Hutchie. The boys scored 3 unanswered tries through Cameron Mackenzie with another 2 and Thomas Miller with Scott Stirton landing another 2 conversions, the last coming from the last play. This made the final score Marr 15 – Hutchie 10.

Lots and lots of good things to applaud, both individually and collectively. But it was the heart, desire, togetherness and never say die attitude that spoke loudest.

They should all be immensely proud of how they have come on this season. S1 played 15 ‘A’ team matches, winning 10 and losing 5. All our losses came in the first part of the season with the last being on 15th November and 4 of those losses were turned into wins in the same fixture later in the season. What is especially pleasing is the way many of the original B team back in September are now part of a bigger squad which gives us more strength in depth than we have ever had and, hopefully, stands us in good stead for next season when we move to 15-a-side.
