Marr edged out by Carrick

Marr S1s were eager to add to their last win and right from the first whistle they played like it. Play was contained in the centre of the pitch with solid phases from both sides, and despite Carrick being bigger man for man, Marr tackled low and hit the rucks with aggression. In addition, the solid Marr pack could not use their strength and training as scrums were asked to be uncontested. Marr's aim was to get the ball out wide from an initial assault through the middle. The ball moved well to the centres and wingers but too often a mis-timed pass or holding onto the ball for too long in contact, meant that any advantage created was lost.

Carrick's captain was a formidable player and used his speed and strength to help control play and he ran in all of their team's four tries as Marr found it difficult to contain him. Marr scored four tries also from Calum Inglis (2), Scott Toner and Thomas Miller. Carrick won courtesy of their three conversions with 12-15 being the final score..

Overall the coaches were pleased with the boys efforts particularly those who are new. Despite missing some of our bigger players, the boys showed a commitment and played as a team. The referee commented that the boys were respectful and kept their tackles low.

The important thing to take away from these matches is that the boys continue to develop their play and use the skills learned to take advantage of the weather conditions and the team they are playing.
