Our school team of Marr College/Prestwick Academy got their season off to its traditional start with an away fixture at Hutchie.
The A team were always up against it against a very well-drilled Hutchie side who will have played together for several seasons and with too many backs playing out of position or in new roles they were always going to struggle. 14-0 down at half-time the second half saw a slight improvement and at full-time it was 22-3. The team needs to work at positional sense especially in defence. There were too many spilled balls and passes the forwards (especially) need to run harder and straighter.
The B Team lost 9-7, getting the best result of the 4 teams visiting. With only 11 players and 1 borrowed they were always playing 12 vs 13. They stuck in hard at their task and with Coach Kyle’s motivational speeches never let their heads go down. There was some good forward running from Aiden and Calum up front and Andrew Baird out back. Very few tackles were missed and Max as hooker and captain led from the front.
