BT West Reserve League 2: Allan Glens 2s vs Marr Rugby (2.00pm kick off)

2017 was another oustanding year for our club. A full review of the year will be published over the coming weeks but to name just a few achievements...

The 1st XV achieved promotion to the BT Premiership
The 2nd XV achieved promotion to Reserve National 2
The 3rd XV achieved promotion to Reserve West 2
Marr College won the Scottish schools Barbarian Conference
Marr College U18's & U16's reached Scottish schools finals day at Murrayfield
A complete renovation and upgrade of Fullarton's changing rooms was completed
A record crowd was at Fullarton for the Ayrshire derby, no less than 1,250 people.

There will be a time to pat ourselves on the back for what we have achieved, however we are back into the thick of the action with crunch games for all senior sides over the next few weeks. The 1st XV are now in the thick of the relegation battle and have 6 games left to fight for survival. The 2nd XV are at the opposite end of the scale, with nothing separating them with Hawick Force at the top of the table.

Marr Rugby 1st XV preview: With no game since the disappointing result and perfomance against Hawick at Fullarton, the squad have been champing at the bit to get back out onto the field. A tough test awaits at Myreside against a Watsonians team in fine form. They are playing a very dynamic and exciting brand of rugby with attacking threats throughout their team. Rory Hutton and Euan Dodds are ones to watch and in addition the potent attacking threat has been strengthened with the inclusion of Welsh Internationalist and Edinburgh winger Jason Harries along with Scotland 7's and Edinburgh fullback Glenn Bryce.

The Fullarton faithful will be delighted to see Rory McGee back in the 1st XV starting line up for the first time since November 2016 after some excellent performances for the 2nd XV in recent weeks. Rory has over 1000 points to his name for the club and will be looking forward to his first taste of top flight rugby. Fraser "Rhino" Ferguson also takes a spot on the bench and could make his premiership debut. Both skipper Angus Johnston & Fraser Watt are unavailable this week and therefore Conor Bickerstaff will captain the side.

In the reverse fixture in September it was the proverbial game of two halves. Watsonians dominated the first whilst Marr bounced back in the second and the game ended honours even with a 13-13 draw.

This Saturday Marr’s players know they have to reduce their error count, have a stable set-piece, be tight in defence and convert pressure into points. The players have reflected on recent performances and this Saturday have the opportunity to step up.

Marr Rugby 2nd XV preview: A strong squad travels to Inverleith to take on Stew Mel 2nd XV. The Fullarton fixture was a one sided affair however we know all too well the danger Stew Mel can pose when they are on form, so a very tough game is expected.

Again the Fullarton Faithful will be delighted to see the return of the Falcon. Grant Baird returns from Iceland and will get his first run out to try and shift the Icelandic keg.

The troops have been working well in training but match fitness and sharpness will be the deciding factor as the 2s aim to extend their good run and keep the pressure on Hawick Force at the top of the league.

The 3rd XV have been busy ferrets over the Christmas period and had a good win against Kilmarnock 2's in a recent friendly so will go into the game full of confidence.
