Match reports to follow

Marr Rugby 1st XV summary: The spoils from 1st XV’s derby match went to Millbrae with the major turning point being Marr’s loss midway through the first half of Kyle Hatherall to a red card following a dangerous tackle. At that point the score was level with the teams having traded two penalties apiece. Both had good attacking opportunities thwarted by equally good solid defensive work that quickly closed down any space.
After gaining the extra man advantage Ayr slowly but surely started to gain the edge in what up until then had been a relatively evenly balanced match. Marr though continued to make life difficult as they defended well refusing to yield any blade of grass. They also had a few phases of possession and territory where the stretched the visitors and threatened their try line. Eventually though as the match drew to a close Ayr were able to finally turn the advantage into points with a penalty try and penalty conversion.

Marr’s lesson and learning included the need to exert control and eliminate conceding penalties. Importantly the need to keep 15 players on the field through the match was re-inforced.

Marr held extra man Ayr at bay for almost 50 minutes but in the closing stages power play and pressure saw balance swung to Ayr who were rewarded with the points to take them safely home.
