Marr Rugby round-up

Marr Rugby round-up Saturday 5 May 2018

Marr Rugby’s 7s outings had mixed success. In the Hamilton 7s the senior side reached the final where they were narrowly defeated by GHA (17-14) who managed to cling on to the lead under severe pressure, having built up a two try advantage. The result was poetic justice for GHA who had played so well at Melrose who narrowly lost to us in the quarter final stage (21-20). With both sides featuring in this weekend’s Glasgow City 7s we hope the draw allows for a decider. On the way to the final Marr despatched Bentlaigh Bulls (Hamilton), Cartha, Heriot Watt and Biggar.

Meanwhile the U18’s reached the semi-final stage where they were knocked out by West of Scotland. Along the way the way Marr drew against Ayr and defeated Cartha and one of the host club sides Bentlaigh. There were some excellent performances from the young Marr side that ultimately ran out of steam against a very strong and physical West side.

Elsewhere, Scott Bickerstaff was part of the trophy winning PROJECX Waterboys who successfully defended their trophy at the Kinsale 7s, Ireland while Conor Bickerstaff played in every match for the Samura1 7s side in the UK Super Sevens tournament at Bury St Edmunds. Samurai lost out in the final to Saracens. Playing at these tournaments are great opportunities for Conor and Scott.
