Marr Rugby round-up

It's a busy week for Marr Rugby. Starting midweek cup action involving the U16 and U18s before Saturday and a series 'friendlies' involving all the youth teams as a precursor to all three senior teams getting back into league action after the enforced break caused by the Autumn International.

Marr College 1st XV is first up in action this afternoon when they travel to play Trinity Academy in the semi-final of the U18s Schools’ Plate competition. Both teams recorded big wins at the quarter final stage so this is expected to be an extremely tough tie and one that could go right to the wire.

This is followed 24 hours later with the U16s making a trip to play Lasswade Academy in the semi-final of the U16’s Schools’ Shield competition. This will be a very tough tie for our young team who have worked very hard and well to get to this point – most recently with a home win against Dunbar 35-25. In the semi-final it’ll be a further step-up as they play a side that has been cruising through the competition with some impressive wins.

Many good wishes to all the players involved who have worked hard and well to earn the right to be at this stage of these competitions. The experience will serve them well as they progress and further develop.

On Saturday, after the successful completion of the Barbarian Schools’ Conference, the Marr College sides move into a series of friendly fixtures – starting with Kelvinside Academy.

Later same day rugby action returns for Marr Rugby’s three senior XV’s. All three are on the road as they look towards dusting down the cobwebs and quickly getting back to match pace and sharpness after breaks caused by the Autumn tests and cancelled cup and re-arranged league matches.

The usual match preview welcome out on Friday BUT meantime – please arrange your Christmas shopping around the following options:

  • 1st XV – away V Heriot’s FC
  • 2nd XV – away V Dundee High ‘Titans’
  • 3rd XV – away V Cumnock RFC 2s
