Marr Rugby’s 2nd XV grabbed a bonus point win away against Boroughmuir to leave them sitting in a great position to secure second place and the promotion spot. They can take the final step next Saturday when they entertain Dundee at Fullarton. Marr sit 10 points ahead of GHA who have a game in hand so mathematically GHA might catch and overtake Marr. But to do so will require them get two bonus point wins and along the way rattle in more than 240 points to reduce the point differential that currently exists. Marr can be masters of their own destiny by getting points from the match against Dundee. Marr supporters will be out in big numbers to back the team as they aim to achieve another milestone in club history.

The win against Boroughmuir was a tousy affair. The home side had a huge pack and a very lively halfback partnership threatened to cause problems. Marr got off to a cracking start as an impressive flowing attacking move ended with Mac McInnes flying in to score in the corner. This rallied the home side who tried their best to batter their way through Marr’s defence. For more than 20 minutes Marr had to defend in depth and live off occasional turnover balls but chances were squandered and possession lost as they tried to force the game. Marr’s defence was give a real test and stood up to significant pressure. The first half ended with no further score.

At the start of the second half Marr added try two. Jack Scott (sponsored by The Harbour Bar) made a line break and turned on his afterburners to race in to score. Try three followed ten minutes later. Craig Kolarik scored and converted his own try after a blizting run. In the closing quarter Boroughmuir kicked up a gear as they desperately tried to get on the scoresheet. Marr’s defence was well up to the test. The final and important bonus point score came from a catch and drive rolling maul with Marr’s pack overwhelming their much bulkier opponents. As the maul crossed the line Ritchie McNicol was in possession to touch down under a pile of bodies.
