Marr Rugby - senior squad selections for 3 December 2016

After the Autumn Internationals break Marr Rugby's 1st and 2nd XV's return to league action on Saturday.

Marr Rugby v GHA preview: The 1s are at home to GHA who have been steadily improving and sit in fifth place in the league. Both sides have players unavailable due to participation in the Arab Emirates Airlines Dubai Rugby 7 where they are playing for the PROJECX WATERBOYS invitational teams. Marr’s try scoring machine Scott Bickerstaff has travelled with four GHA players; Peter Jericevich, Nigel Kelly, Dom Kelly and Andrew Goudie,

This is a fantastic opportunity and experience for the players involved and all at Marr Rugby pass on congratulations for the recognition and good wishes for the tournament.

This obviously leaves the respective coaching teams looking at how they will cover the absentees and provides a great opportunity for the incoming players to lay down a marker. GHA's enjoy playing an expansive game with their backs benefiting from being ably to work behind a strong pack that provides good attacking platforms. We know that Marr follow a similar approach so anticipate a belter of a match.

Gregor Ness returns to the starting line up in place of the absent Scott Bickerstaff while assistant coach Kenny Diffenthal takes a place on the bench for the injured Rory McGee. Up front Chris Nisbet returns to the front row with Andy Kelly also back among the replacements. Curran McMillan, who also plays for the Army, could make his Marr debut after impressing in pre-season.

Marr Rugby 2nd XV v Dumfries preview: Marr Rugby's 2s travel with a relatively strong squad that is well balanced with experience and youthful vigour. Fraser 'Rhino' Ferguson returns to the front row to partner Neil Wallace and Richie McNicol. The back row which has been in devastating form will benefit in loose play from inclusion of Fraser Grant in the second row. Call ups to the 1s sees Rudi Marshall covering at scrum-half and Murray Beckwith at fullback. Having recovered from injury and successfully completed his rehabilitation Jack Butchart starts on the right wing. This sees Thomas Watkins moving to cover outside centre.

Marr hope to continue their great run in the league but they are up against a team that holds an impressive home record, most recently beating third placed Cartha Queens Park, so we expect a tough contest.
