Crunch game at Fullarton

Ollie Rossi becomes Marr's latest centurion!

PRE-MATCH REPORT By Stephen Allam

Marr 1st XV versus Aberdeen Grammar TENNENTS NATIONAL DIVISION 1 KO 2PM FULLARTON

Marr 2nd XV versus Watsonians TENNENTS NATIONAL RESERVE PREMIER DIVISION away at WATSONIANS. KO 2PM

Marr 3rd XV versus West of Scotland 2nd XV TENNENTS WEST RESERVE DIVISION 1 FULLARTON KO 1PM.

A first point to note is that we have 64 senior rugby players pulling on the purple and gold jersey this weekend across 3 XV's which shows our club continues to punch well above it's weight. The 2nd XV also include 22 players who have come through the Marr College Conveyor Belt which bodes well for the future as we head into still unknown territory.

MARR LOOK NORTH TO TRY TO MAINTAIN THEIR TOP POSITION.

With Marr sitting on top of TENNENTS NATIONAL DIVISION 1 by one single point and a game in hand , Craig Redpath will be reminding his team that concentration and team commitment will be vital to keep the momentum going as we face an in form Aberdeen side who travel to Troon at full strength. Aberdeen Grammar last two results have been impressive. They hammered Kelso 66 -7 and beat a strong Selkirk side 30 – 17. We will also remember for a very long time our last match against Aberdeen, when the lead changed hand, no less than twelve times, with Marr eventually coming out victorious 47 – 37.

The Marr team remains virtually unchanged from last week, with the only change, Fraser Grant coming in to replace Kris Kirk who has strained his back. Onto the bench comes new exciting prospect - 17 year old Jamie Drummond who has also been selected for the Scotland under 18 training squad. Jamie has been a standout for the very successful Marr U18's this season and was awarded man of the match in his senior debut last week for the 2nds against Heriots. The Fullarton faithful should expect to see a bundle of energy & physicality, despite his smaller size, should he be called upon from the bench. Congratulations to Jamie on even being considered for selection which is a testament to his hard work.

The other notable event on Saturday is the achievement of our much loved hooker Ollie Rossi, who hits 100 1st XV caps, all done by the remarkable age of 23! Another product of the Marr College Conveyor Belt, here is hoping Ollie can top off a memorable milestone with a win at Fullarton.

Marr’s 2nd XV travel to Edinburgh to face a tough Watsonians side with nine under 18 players in their squad. After last week’s rave reports about the skill and commitment of these youngsters we look to another great performance from our valued 2nd XV, all of whom have come through the Marr College Conveyor Belt. Keir MacDougall & Scott Rodger will make their senior rugby debuts and experience in Murray Beckwith, who will play alongside cousin Gregor Beckwith for the first time, returns along with Ali Walker & his sweet lines.

The 3rd XV play West of Scotland 2nd XV. This is the first time our thirds have played them, however I know Andy Mathieson will be delighted that he has got a full squad , [that have actually been training] to choose from. We wish Andy and his thirds all the best.

BEST OF LUCK TO ALL TEAMS THIS WEEKEND WHO CONTINUE TO DO OUR CLUB PROUD
