P3 Home game against Uddingston.
With this our first home match of the new season we almost had a full contingent of players with only a few of the guy’s missing out, Uddingston brought one squad along to play our three so we had a Marr v Marr game in the background whilst each of the team’s took on the visitor’s.
Marr Gold – Zach, Bruce, Robbie, Jack Wilson, Rory Blair & Rory Steel
Marr Purple – Ewan Mathieson, Jack Sharman, Kenzie, Jamie, Fionn, Russell, Bailey & Ryan Carson
Marr Green – Ryan Cambridge, Ewan Morrison, Calvin, Charlie, Tom, William & Findlay

Marr Gold v Uddingston 3-0:
With Uddingston kicking off this game very quickly settled into a routine with Uddingston keeping the ball for over 90% of the game, this was due to the fantastic defence play from Marr holding their shape well and pushing Uddingston back and sideways constantly. Over the ten minutes of play Marr had the ball three times, and the movement off the ball, the quality of the passes and the good hands meant we worked up the pitch at speed and scored a try each time. Scores – Zach, Bruce & Jack Wilson.
Marr Purple v Uddingston 2-1:
Game two followed the first game in very much the same pattern as the first, with Marr keeping Uddingston hemmed into their own half for much of the game, with the same great defence play as the Gold, barring one break down that let Uddingston in to get a score on the board, One play that did take everyone by surprise was the flying tackle on Ewan by his younger brother Alexander (P1) after invading the pitch and bring him down as he was on his way to the corner was a blinder, although Ewan was not as amused as everyone else, but other than that when we had the ball we played in strongly and did manage to get the ball down over the try line twice with Ewan and Jamie getting the Purple tries.
Marr Green v Uddingston 3-3:
This game was a bit closer although the score line flatters the visitors somewhat, Here once again the Marr defence game was good just a little off the two earlier matches but to many times the guy’s wandered into offside position or didn’t track back as a team when Uddingston broke over the game line. In possession we looked much stronger and Ewan Morrison was deadly in seeing the gaps in the line to run in all three tries for Marr.
In all, another fantastic effort by the boys, with the ball handling and movement on show a great credit to the team, need to work on the offside a bit in the coming weeks but that is one of the hardest things to get your head around at this young age. The one outstanding thing for the coaches was the look of pure joy at playing a rugby match on all the boys’ faces, as long as we see that we know we are doing something right.
