P3 had two squads out for the first games of the season
Marr Gold – Zach, Kenzie, Jamie, Robbie, Rory Steel & Jack Sharman
Game 1 v Ayr (Marr 8 – Ayr 2)
Our Hosts had an interesting option to ensure everyone had the ball by playing one minute possession for each team which we were happy to go along with, being perfect hosts they allowed us the start the match and it took Zach seconds to get the first try for the P3 season notched up, we ran in another two tries in the first minute before handing the ball over to Ayr. Robbie and Jack stepped up here and kept Ayr hemmed back on their own try line throughout. In the second session of attacking play Kenzie & Jamie joined Zach on the score Sheet and play continued in this format for most of the first game, Rory Steel was playing as a perfect number 15 keeping everything tidy at the back as the boys enjoyed this first game.

Game 2 v Hamilton
The Hamilton team was a composite team made up from P2 & P3 and this was shown during the game, I stopped counting the tries we scored against them with everyone getting in on the action. One of the tries though was a thing of beauty with the whole team carrying the ball forward and passing off before the tackle, working right to left and back again until a gap was opened and the try scored, it was a pleasure as a coach to know that deep down something is sinking in, Thank you boys!!

Game 3 v Ayr (Marr 5 – Ayr 2)
Game 3 against another Ayr team started a little early and I was watching my other son play in a P6 match so thank you to Findlay’s dad for stepping up for the boys (expect to see you in a track suit next Saturday at training ) when I got back the boys where losing 2 – 1 but I think the second Ayr score got the boys going as they stepped back up and pressed Ayr hard and worked themselves right back into the game back into the game, Robbie scored a very tenacious try picking up an Ayr dropped ball and popping it over the try line and excellent reward for his pressing game all day.

In all, the ball handling skills (catching, passing and holding), movement (supporting the ball carrier and positional set up for defence) and working as a team on display was fantastic to see this early in the season, hope we don’t peak too soon.

Marr P3 Purple were: Findlay Stewart, Will Duncan, Rory Blair, Ewan Morrison, Ryan Cambridge, Jack Wilson, Bruce Abbot
Won all 3 matches, 2 matches v Ayr [scores 8-2 and 10-2] and 1 match v Hamilton [score 10-1]
The majority of our 28 scores on the day came from 3 flyers Ewan, Jack and Bruce.
Tenacious Ryan was never far from the ball and won several turnovers leading the team into attack after attack.
Findlay, Will and Rory showed great handling skills throughout setting up scores, and were most impressive in the defensive wall.
Speed and handling skills were very apparent, keeping the ball alive and finishing most of their chances at speed.
