As the first pre-season friendly this was a match of 3 periods of 20 minutes designed to get everyone some much needed game time.
In the first period Marr raced into a 0-14 lead courtesy of 2 tries from David Craig both due to him hitting an excellent line at pace and slicing through the GHA back line. The first score was from 40m out, the second was closer after a sustained period of Marr pressure in the GHA 22. Both tries were converted by Calum Inglis. Marr then sat back for the rest of the period and allowed GHA to dominate with the result that GHA got 2 tries to peg Marr back at 12-14
Marr rang the changes for the second period, maybe more so than GHA who scored a couple of tries following missed tackles to lead 26-14
Both sides ensured everyone played in the 3rd period where Marr scored first through Nairn Calder (converted by David Craig) to bring the game back to 26-21 and with Marr looking to get that equalising try it was GHA who had the last say scoring right at the end to win the match 31-21
In the end it was a good run out for everyone without injuries. With some poor commitment at rucks and narrow defence it also gave the coaches a good insight into what needs to be worked on before the season starts with our Schools Cup tie versus Lomond School on 4th September
