Premiership Rugby returns to Fullarton

1ST XV - TENNENT’S PREMIERSHIP - MARR vs MUSSELBURGH - 3pm KO @ FULLARTON

2ND XV - TENNENT’S RESERVE WEST 1 - HILLHEAD JORDANHILL vs MARR - 3pm KO @ HUGHENDEN

3RD XV - FRIENDLY - MARR vs LANARK - 2pm KO @ FULLARTON

The long awaited first home game is finally upon us. With away fixtures to Inverness, Aberdeen, Biggar, and Jedburgh, Marr 1st XV have already clocked up over 1300 miles on the road and at last the Fullarton Faithful will finally get to see their team perform when they take on Musselburgh.

With four wins from four Marr will be looking for a solid performance at Fortress Fullarton, however we know that our opponents will be no push over, as last year’s results testify.
Firstly Marr won at Fullarton 36 points to 18 early last season. Then they played exceptionally well to win away from home 27 points to 10.

Head coach Craig Redpath has made a few changes from last week’s victorious squad against at Jed, with competition for places at an all time high.

In comes centurion Fraser Grant into the ‘boiler room’ at number 5 after making a huge impact from the bench last week. 'Chat' last week clocked up his 150th cap for Marr, which is a wonderful achievement and he continues to improve year on year. Tighthead Calvin Henderson recovers from injury and rotates in for William Farquhar who will no doubt bring a huge impact from the bench on what will be his 99th appearance.

Also in, is former Carrick player Greg Montgomery at full back. 'Monty' has really impressed the coaching staff with his solid performances in pre-season and the Scottish Cup. Gregor Paxton comes into centre with Richard Dalgleish moving to the wing.

Marr will be keen to use the very strong and experienced bench during the match with players like Fijian winger Iosefo Turaga, William Farquhar, Gregor Ness, Cody Cunningham and our very exciting 18 year old Jamie Drummond, who is currently pushing for a place in the Scotland under 20 squad.

There will also be a few changes to the usual format tomorrow, when the 1st XV will get a ‘guard of honour’ from our mini section as they run onto the park. Also for the first time ever, we have a team mascot Hattie Young, who will present the captains with the match ball. At half time there will be a special presentation to our under 16 team where they will be presented with the West of Scotland cup that they won last season.

The 2nd XV travel to Hughenden to take on Hillhead Jordanhill 2nd XV, looking to continue their strong start to the league after a 63-5 win at Glasgow Accies last week. The Fullarton faithful will be delighted to see the return of near double centurion Rory McGee who makes his first appearance for the club since his return from an ACL rupture that ruled him out of the entire last season. With the likes of Andrew Mill & Jack Scott behind the scrum and centurion coalface Kyle Vallance in a back row with Calum Stell & Josh Evans, the 2nd XV look stronger than ever. What is more pleasing is that all 21 players available went to Marr College!

It will also be the last game for physio Martin Pursley who heads into his masters year at university along with picking up more work with the NHS. A top guy who has done a huge amount for the club over the last few seasons, we wish Martin well and hope to see him soon.
