PRE-MATCH REPORT HIGHLAND RUGBY

Marr face long journey in the Scottish Cup.

Highland versus Marr 1st XV Scottish Cup Quarter Final K.O. 2PM
Marr 2nd XV versus Hillhead/Jordanhill 2nd XV TENNENT’S RESERVE LEAGUE 1 WEST K.O.2PM
Cumnock 2nd XV versus Marr 3rd XV TENNENT’S RESERVE LEAGUE WEST 3 K.O. 2PM

Marr face the long journey to Inverness this Saturday. Due to the distance to cover, the team will be travelling on the Friday evening and staying over in the Capital of the Highlands.
Highland Rugby Club are having an excellent season and currently sit third in Tennent’s National Division 1, just 2 points behind Heriots Blues. They are a very difficult team to beat at home with only Heriot’s Blues managing a victory in Inverness so far this season.
Looking at their home results, none of their victories have been close affairs as they seem to pile on the points against nearly all of their opposition. However Marr did play Highland in the first warm up match of the season back in August and Marr did win easily, but both teams will be vastly different this time, with a much coveted place in the semi-final draw of the Scottish Cup now beckoning.
Craig Redpath has yet again got a near full squad of players to choose from. Only Richard Dalgleish is missing. Craig has only made one change from the starting line-up that kicked off against Selkirk last week.
In comes Curran McMillan in place of regular hooker Olli Rossi who takes his place on the bench.
There is also potential for a debut into the 1st XV for young tight head prop Isaac Renucci. Isaac is another product of the Marr College conveyer belt and his good performances in the 2nd XV has awarded his hard work with a place on the bench. Marr’s other young star, Callum Inglis is also on the bench after his impressive debut performance last week against Selkirk. Josh Harvey and Gregor Ness both also return form injury to take their place amongst the replacements.
Marr of course will have all nine of their Scotland Club players in the squad and the management were happy that they all came through the intense full contact training that they had to endure through the week.
Our coaches will be emphasising the point that we are only two matches away from getting the immense honour of running out onto the pitch at Murrayfield. Highland will prove a very tough test for the Marr boy’s, one that they will require full commitment and concentration to overcome.
Marr’s 2nd XV will be looking forward to the rearranged fixture against Hillhead Jordanhill and will be chasing a good victory here. So please if you can’t make the long journey north please get along to Fullarton and cheer on our exciting young 2nd XV.
Marr’s 3rd XV still chasing the division title will travel to East Ayrshire to face Cumnock 2nd XV. This is never an easy place to go. However we wish our 3rd XV the best of luck!
