Marr P7 - 2024 Exeter Tour
Last weekend our Primary 7 squad went on the road to support Glasgow Warriors in their Investec Champions Cup match with Exeter at Sandy Park.
Over 40 players, coaches and parents embarked on the tour south of the border to cheer on the Warriors and have their own cross border clash with teams from Exeter & Crediton Rugby Club's.
The weekend kicked off with a flight to Bristol and a quiet night as the squad prepared for a bumper day of Rugby on Saturday. A 06.30am bus trip to Sandy Park was followed by a tour of the outstanding Exeter facilities, players getting the opportunity to look around the gym and spend time in the Exeter changing room prior to the players arriving. This was followed by a 2 hour training session led by the Exeter Community Coaching team, all of the players received an Chiefs goody bag.
The squad then caught their breath and enjoyed a cornish pasty before forming the guard of honour for the Chiefs v Warriors match. Everyone then enjoyed the first half before they were invited for a lap of the field at half time to promote their tour to the Home fans. Glasgow came up agonisingly short of getting a famous win but all of the squad got the opportunity to meet the players after the match, getting autographs and pics with their favourite stars.
It was back to the hotel for some dinner and team building before the Warriors (who were staying in the same hotel) returned and ran the players through some lineout and backs coaching which was amazing for our young kids.
Sunday was an early start as the group headed for Crediton Rugby Club for their matches with Exeter & Crediton U12's. The Calcutta Cup rivalry got started a little early this year with both teams singing the national anthems as they prepared for the games. A great performance from the Marr squad saw them run out 7-1 winners. It was then back into the Clubhouse for some food, player of the match awards and exchanging of gifts between the Clubs as well as watching the Bath v Racing 92 match on the big screen.
The group then headed off for Bristol airport and you would have thought they would have had their fill of meeting the stars for one weekend but when they arrived to check in they bumped into the Racing 92 squad who were on their way back to Paris following their Champions Cup match with Bath. The main attraction being Siya Kolisi, the Springbok double world cup winning captain who is one of Racings many big stars.
All in all it was a fantastic weekend for all players, coaches and parents on the tour. Amazing support for the Glasgow Warriors and a fantastic experience for all the young Marr players.
Everyone involved with the tour and at the Club would like to thank the amazing Tour Sponsors who made this trip possible:

Without their fantastic support the tour simply would have been possible.
