It is crunch time!

Captain Conor powers into the Gala defence

Pre Match Report by Stephen Allam

Marr 1st XV versus Gala, TENNENT’S NATIONAL DIVISON 1. KO 3PM

Marr 3rd XV versus West of Scotland 2nd XV TENNENT’S WEST RESERVE LEAGUE 1 AWAY KO TBC

Marr face yet another tough test when they face Gala in the third last game of the season.
Gala is a team that Marr have never beaten, although we have only played them twice. The first encounter was the National 1 play-off three years ago when Gala won 22 points to 10. The second was earlier in the season at Netherdale, Gala won 31 points to 17. The later was a very close affair with Gala scoring two tries in the last five minutes.

On the other hand Marr have not been beaten in National 1 at Fullarton for over 4 years. This was a narrow defeat to Selkirk. Therefore something has to give! Marr are at full strength with a very similar squad that recently defeated GHA away from home.

The changes to the starting team are: Ollie Rossi drops to the bench with Stephen Adair starting at hooker. Liam Mcloughlin starts on the bench with the more experienced Gregor Ness taking his place at full back. Also a warm welcome back to Marr’s most capped player Scott Bickerstaff who returns from playing in the World Sevens in Las Vegas. Lastly supporters will note that Ben Johnston takes his place on the bench after returning from London for the weekend. This will provide a real impact and I am sure he will feature heavily in the vital confrontation.

The weather is still a concern, however Tom Irvine Marr’s groundsman is confident that the pitch is holding up well after excessive amounts of rain over the last few days.

Marr will be going all out to win this fixture in its quest to win Tennent’s Nation Division 1 for the second time in three years. This will be a great achievement that has seldom been achieved in the past. Gala will be up for the match as they look to secure their place in the top 6, which will mean they will take their place in next year’s top division.

So we ask all fans of the purple and gold to wrap up well and come up to shout on our boys.

The Calcutta Cup match England v Scotland will be shown after the game on the biggest screen in Troon!
