Marr Rugby roundup (14.4.2025): End of era - life kicks on

Senior result (12.4.2025)
Marr Rugby 19 - Currie Chieftains 26 (Match sponsor DM Homeshield)

1st XV Summary: Almost 500 turned out to see the 1st XVs final match of the season and bid farewell to four stalwarts making their final appearance as a player. During the second half each was given the opportunity to experience and savour the loud accolades and appreciation from the touchline as they finished their shift.

Grant Baird, Scott Bickerstaff, Ben Johnston and Colin Sturgeon have all made a significant contribution and have set the bar for others to aspire towards. Younger players are coming through and as when in 2008 and 2013 the departing players were the "young team", a new young team will have the opportunity to make their own mark.

It was a fitting send off with a high energy and physically demanding match where all 22 Marr players involved gave their all, ran Currie close, and were unfortunate not to get the result they deserved.

The players will have a well earned rest albeit brief for some as several prepare for the VSN 7s (Sunday 4.5.2025 @ Whitecraigs) and an U21 squad prepares for a new initiative that sees a double header against Ayr - details to follow.
