Big weekend for Marr Girls

Big weekend for Marr Girls

Colin Sturgeon8 Mar 2023 - 14:37

On the road at Stewarts Melville & Waysiders Drumpellier.

Marr Girls Minis and Micros enjoyed a great day at Stewart’s Melville for the East Region Festival with 9 U12, 9 U10 and 12 micros making the coach trip across whilst 9 other U12s attended the Glasgow North Festival at Waysiders.

The Marr Minis got plenty of game time and dominated in both the U12s and U10s games showing great determination in defence and creativity in attack on some very small pitches that limited their usual use of space and open attacking style. Both teams used pressure defence and aggressive line speed to force errors and win multiple turnovers. Communication and teamwork were evident throughout with girls drawing defenders to open up space for support runners to score some cracking tries despite the tight pitches. To top off a fantastic experience the girls were joined by Megan Gaffney who gave out medals and certificates to all the girls.

The micros had a blast with the girls joining in with loads of rugby games, including what could be the biggest ever game of sharks and fishes with girls from across the East region, before playing some matches. The girls loved the chance to show off their talents, tuck into some cakes and make new friends.

At Waysiders the Marr U12 girls came up against some really strong opposition with girls from across Glasgow North and South. The rucking was ferocious creating a number of tries in quick succession and when Marr did get a chance to defend they really dominated the contact. In attack Marr’s direct running and quick offloads from the tackle lead to a flurry of spectacular tries.
