Marr Rugby S2 Vs GHA Rugby S2
By Greg Hillier
A tough test
Marr welcomed GHA to Fullarton for the final club game of the year. The fixture had been in some doubt given the weather conditions throughout the week, however the main pitch was in good condition for a free flowing game.
Marr were pleased to have several players returning from injury available and given the performances of GHA in their league, this was going to be a tough test.
The game began and it was not long before GHA broke away from their own 22 for the wing to score under the posts. Marr struggled to keep possession at the breakdown, largely down to some clinical clear outs by the GHA prop. Marr stodgy in defence benefited from a GHA infringement at halfway, some quick thinking by Marr (HB) committing his opposite number to feed (AR) who with a delightful grubber kick behind the GHA defence, set (RC) free who still had some work to do before finishing well in the corner. The game restarted and Marr were brave in defence, however unable to keep possession, which allowed the GHA Backs to benefit and score two more try’s in the first half.
HALF TIME MARR (4) GHA (11)
The second half began with some tenacious play by both teams in attack, with GHA backs involved again to score early. Marr determined in defence, however inability to retain or compete at the breakdown ultimately enabled GHA to build continuous phases of pressure play. Marr still working hard manged to use the ball in the closing stages to set wing (DL) free to score in the corner.
The game was a fitting end to the year, with GHA worthy winners and Marr wish them well for the remainder of the season and look forward to a return fixture.
