Marr College S2 Vs Wellington S2
By Greg Hillier
Marr College welcomed local neighbours Wellington to the playing fields for the last fixture of the conference. The matches have been competitive over the past few seasons with both teams sharing the spoils by narrow margins. The game began in typical fashion with neither side compromising at the breakdown and showing ambition to take hold of the game.
Wellington deployed big runners at the side of the breakdown in the middle of the pitch before passing out to their backline. Marr Captain (AR) made an excellent tackle on his opposing number, (which was to be a theme of the match) in which the ball was spilled, recovered well by (LSA) beating several defenders to score under the posts. Marr gathered from the restart and after several phases of play deployed there backline for (FD) to accelerate away from his opposing number to score under the posts. Marr forwards were now dominating the contact area and keeping possession of the ball with some excellent decision making by (HB) utilising the midfield to create several over laps released (FD) to score under the posts from halfway. Following some indecision from the restart Wellington sought to capitalise and made a rare foray into the Marr 22, some belligerent defence by Marr and fantastic rip from (AK) enabled Marr to clear there lines. Marr forward (CP) pinched the ball at the line-out and some quick thinking by (DL) set loose the Marr backline on a paddock move, for (FD) to finish a positive team try.

Marr began the second half with real tempo, seeking to increase their advantage, Marr came close on several occasions in the first ten minutes but were stopped just short of the line with try saving tackles. The game as one observer noted (huffed and Puffed) just outside the Wellington 22, with a bad case of droppedballitis setting in for both teams. Marr forwards were still pursuing a route one approach and with 5 minutes remaining, offloaded the ball through several pair of hands for the elusive and well timed run of (SM) to score just left of the posts. This was an excellent passage of play by the forwards and equally pleasing for the coaching staff and supporters. (HB) completed the conversion to bring the match to an end.
