Marr College Vs St Columba #AnotherClassic
Marr College S2 welcomed St Columba to the playing fields for the first home conference fixture of the season. Marr College/Rugby have played St Columba/Birkmyere on many occasions over the past few years. The fixtures have previously been very competitive with a real commitment by both teams to play attractive Rugby.
The game began with real tempo, St Columba working extremely hard to keep control of the ball and progress towards the Marr Try line. This was rewarded with a try in the first five minutes of the game. Marr reset themselves to the challenge and sought to level the score, however St Columba's forwards were not in agreement and demonstrated a ruthless approach in breaking the Marr defensive line, from first phase plays. This was complimented by some excellent offloads in contact, which afforded St Columba's several opportunities to score which they accepted. Marr were working really hard to close down the running channels and make first up tackles, this was exemplified by (Lsant) on several occasions and made one of the best technical tackles of the day, to prevent a try for St Columba, a tackle any professional player would have been proud off.
Half Time: Marr College (0) St Columba (18)
The fixture was well attended by both sets of supporting parents and there was perhaps a sentiment of the second half being about damage limitation for Marr College. The second half began with Marr College driving the tempo of the game, and being rewarded with the first try of the second half. Marr had learned the lessons of the first half and accepted the challenge to reduce the deficit by committing to the breakdown and scoring some well worked team trys. This led to a final flurry of injuries, urgency and drama in the final ten minutes of the game, with Marr pressing hard to equalise the game. St Columba held there nerve and secured the win, which was deserved over the 60 mins.
Both sets of supporters, players and coaches were again not left disappointed by the fixture. In summary a total of 16 trys and several conversions with both teams contributing to a committed game of rugby with some great skills on show. The coaches of both teams will have some areas to develop in preparation for the remainder of the season. Marr College would like to thank our friends at St Columba and Coach Liam for a great game and wish you continued success for the rest of the season.
