Operation Phoenix - update

Operation Phoenix – update (29 June)

The main demolition work for phase 1 is almost complete. Part of the old roof area over the bar and hallway will be removed once we are ready to introduce the new roof. The new foundations have been dug out and concrete laid. As part of the current works we are introducing a new external door at the player’s corridor beside the gym. This work which started today (Monday 29/6) will include widening the corridor with the removal of the wall and steps leading to the former viewing gallery. This part of the work will take four or five days so access to gym will not be available between 29/6 and 3/7.

The strip back of the damaged and existing roof area has allowed us to re-asses the work required to build the new roof. We had hoped this might provide us with an opportunity to adjust the work we had planned on having to carry out (and reduce time and costs). Unfortunately the fire damage is as bad as we anticipated and our plan and work schedule will have to progress in line with earlier predictions.

Following the ground-work excavations we have been able to look at how we might revise the plans for the new drainage to minimise disruption and achieve a simpler tie in with the existing services. So fair things look promising and we will know for sure later this week following further work.

To accommodate the new rear door the gas supply to the boiler has been moved and will be re-connected later this week.

Next steps include completing work on foundations and the new rear door.

Further updates to follow.
