Marr Rugby - senior squad selections for 21 October 2017

BT Premiership: Marr Rugby v Currie Chieftains RFC (Match sponsor- Mono Consultants Ltd)
BT West Reserve League 2: Greenock RFC 2s v Marr Rugby 3s

It’s a step into new territory for Marr Rugby’s 1st and 3rd XV’s as they encounter new opponents in the latest round of league business.

The 1s are at home against 2nd top Currie who will travel to Fullarton in confident mood, having edging Stirling County in their most recent fixture while Marr’s players hope to bounce back after last week’s result.

The 3s travel to Fort Matilda to play a rampant Greenock side that is hitting top form. Last week they entertained and thumped Annan while Marr’s squad had a free(ish) weekend when their fixture was cancelled.

Marr Rugby 1st XV preview: The physical demands of life in the Premiership are continuing to take their toll on Marr’s squad with Fraser Grant, Stephen Adair and Angus Johnston added to the growing injury list in the pack. Greg Peterson is given a much deserved rest week by Glasgow Warriors after some hugely physical performances for us over the last 5 games however James Malcolm is once again released to bolster the front row. With back and second row cover under pressure it’s great to see the timely return of Ben Johnston who has made himself available for selection and the promotion from the 2s of Callum Craig. New signing Fraser Watt could also make his debut against his former club and 2nd XV captain Josh Evans is also in the mix to make his first premiership appearance.

Behind the scrum is returning to full strength with Richard Dalgleish passed fit after a knock against Melrose & Tom Steven getting back to full match fitness. Added to this good news is that flyer Scott Bickerstaff returns after a month out through a knee injury and could take a place on the bench. Dougie Steele makes his 50th appearance for the purple and gold (stretching over a decade) & Conor Bickerstaff captains the side in the absence of Angus Johnston.

Marr Rugby 3rd XV preview: Marr 3s get another chance to test themselves against tough opposition as they travel to play on-form Greenock 2nd XV. Marr’s mixture of experience and youth will be stretched against a side that last weekend delivered a comprehensive home win against Annan scoring 82 points whilst conceding only 5. Marr’s defence and protection of the ball will have to be at or near its best while also taking advantage of any attacking opportunities that present.
