Marr Rugby round-up (Saturday 19 August 2017) -Two from two for Marr

Marr Rugby’s pre-season preparations continued with the 2nd XV and 3rd XV featuring in match action on Saturday.

Due to a cancellation from their opponents the 1st XV had to make do with a training session before some, in need to match practice, were nominated by head coach Craig Redpath to step in to help our depleted 2s squad for their away trip to play Falkirk’s 1s and 2s select.

Both Marr Rugby sides emerged as winners with the 2s scoring five tries along the way to a single in reply. In exceptionally windy conditions and from wide angles Rudi Marshall was in exceptional form with his place kicking, missing only one shot at goal. In open play Danny Clark was a human dynamo, ferocious in the tackle and a persistent thorn in Falkirk’s side. Neil Wallace excelled at the dark art of producing turnover ball out of a melee of bodies and on several occasions Murray Beckwith exploited gaps on the outside to good effect – running in two tries along the way.

Meanwhile at Fullarton the 3s had their first runout against Cumnock’s 2nd XV. This was a tighter affair and close fought contest with Marr edging out winners 19 – 17. Marr’s try scorers were the flying forwards Chris Myers, Johnny Connell and effervescent back Michael Paxton

All the Marr players involved took benefit from the matches as they prepare for the league campaigns ahead.
