Marr Rugby round-up (10.3.18): Ice-cool Watkins has final say to seal local derby win

BT Reserve League West 2: Cumnock RFC (2nd XV) 22 Marr Rugby (3rd XV) 24

Marr Rugby’s 3rd XV was on the road in catch-up action on Saturday for the re-arranged fixture against Cumnock. Local derby matches are always a tight a very physical contests and this one was no different. Neither side was prepared to give any quarter. Scores were few and ground out.

For Marr, two tries by the ever impressive Shaun Fallows and one by the forever present bulk of Chris Myers, complimented by some steely nerveless kicking from young Thomas Watkins who added three conversions and a match winning penalty gave Marr a well fought and hugely deserved victory to put them 2nd in the table.

Marr Rugby scorers
Tries: Sean Fallows (2) and Chris Myers
Conversions: Thomas Watkins (3)
Penalty: Thomas Watkins

Looking ahead to next Saturday we see Marr Rugby’s 1st and 2nd XV’s in action. The 1s play their final league match of the season knowing that they need a bonus point win in their fight for survival whilst nervously watching the scoring at Mansfield Park where Hawick entertain Melrose. Hawick hold a five pint advantage over Marr so there remains a chance, albeit extremely slim.

Marr Rugby 2nd XV is on the road hoping to finally complete the fixture against GHA. This is the third time the match has been re-scheduled due to weather and pitch related cancellations.
