Marr Rugby preview

Marr Rugby senior fixtures 20 October 2018

preview by Stephen Allam

MARR 1st XV versus GHA TENNENTS NATIONAL 1 kick off 3pm (Fullarton)

MARR 2ND XV versus MELROSE STORM. TENNENTS NATIONAL 1 RESERVE LEAGUE kick off 3pm (Fullarton)

MARR 3RD XV versus WEST OF SCOTLAND 2ND XV WEST RESERVE LEAGUE 1 away kick off 3pm (Milngavie)

We welcome high flying GHA rugby to Fullarton for this top of the table crunch match. GHA are currently lying in second place in the league, with Marr hot on their tails one point behind in third.

The last time the two teams met was the scene of Marr Rugby’s greatest ever achievement when we lifted the NATIONAL 1 title back on the 1st April 2017 at a very wet Braidholm when we won 39-22. There is no doubt that GHA head coach Ewan Clark will be using this memory to stir his troops and try and reverse that result.

Craig Redpath will be happy that he has been able to select the same team as last week, however, he will also be aware that four key players are soon set to make a return for Marr. It was announced that our long serving centre/standoff Colin Sturgeon is due back from New Zealand in November. Also, Scott Bickerstaff, Gregor Ness and Dan Law continue to get close to returning after injury.

The only changes are on the bench for Marr with hooker Ollie Rossi replacing Ritchie McNicol and Kenny Diffenthal coming in to add vital experience from the bench.

With the weather expected to be set to fair, we expect a high class game of rugby and we ask that the large home support cheer on both teams and show respect to the match officials.

Marr 2nd VX face a tough task when they meet the mighty Melrose Storm. Curran McMillan returns from military service to bolster the front row and Ali Walker steps in to captain the side in the absence of Josh Evans.

Marr 3rd XV also will be up against it against a West of Scotland team when they travel to Milngavie.

We wish all teams’ good luck!
