Junior Rugby update

Monday, March 8th 2010

Thanks to the better weather & the excellent pitches at the College Fields, 4 MARR RUGBY teams played against Hutchesons’ GS last Saturday.

The S2 A team continued their successful season with a 12 - 3 win scoring 4 tries & the only down side was the injury to HAZEL (collar bone) with the last move of the game. Having sold a dummy, with 30m to go, white line fever took over & he went for the line. Too bad because so did the Hutchie boy & as they went over the line well ..... you know the rest.
Hutchie staff were very pleased with the visitors fine performance & this says much for the MARR boys who controlled the game & deserved to win.
Ayrshire Schools Sevens on Wednesday at Irvine.

The S1 A team drew their match 14 - 14 but should probably have won. Since the MARR boys lost the opening fixture of the season to Hutchie by 22 points, this was a huge improvement. Tries by McGUFFIE, FRASER (2), & McKENZIE were matched by a good performance by Hutchie & some slack defending by MARR in the second half.
The pick of the MARR tries was the one by McKENZIE on the left wing. McGUFFIE, hacked a loose ball some 30m from the MARR 22, was tackled but fed FRASER, the ball then going through HELLIWELL & HOUSTON before McKENZIE found space to sprint 15m & dive over. Team rugby.

4 away matches to Glasgow Academy this coming Saturday.
