Marr Rugby preview

AGM SUMMARY

End of an era for Marr as Kevin Quinn steps down as president.

Kevin has quite simply guided Marr to the most successful 10 years in the clubs history. Not only has Marr enjoyed winning several league titles, as well as the Shield trophy at Murrayfield, but has grown its membership and also benefited from a much stronger financial position than it was in ten long years ago. All in all we have to thank Kevin for his dedication and hard work to the purple and gold cause.

I am sure everyone associated with the club would like to thank Kevin for his service.

Another change is Billy Bate steps down as club secretary. The club would also like to thank Billy for his immense contribution to Marr and wish him all the best on the future. I am sure we will still see Kevin and Billy around the club helping out as usual.

Finally thanks and congratulations to Tony Peters for stepping into the role of Vice President. Tony has been an influential figure at the club over the years and has earned respect around the Scottish club community through his passionate support for the club game, lunch time speaking & bugle playing!

The match has very kindly been sponsored by Arnold CLARK, Kilmarnock and we would sincerely like to thank them for their support!

They and other match sponsors and advertisers provide a valuable contribution in helping Marr deliver high quality rugby for the local community.

On Saturday Marr 1st XV entertain Kelso in National division 1. Kelso Head coaches Adam Roxburgh & Gary Stevens will be keen to get a win under their belts especially after a relatively slow start to their season. The last time Marr played Kelso was in December 2015 that resulted in a fairly close affair with Marr coming out on top 27 –18, but to my memory the weather that day was somewhat inclement that resulted in flowing rugby being extremely difficult to execute.

The Marr committee look forward to welcoming Willie Mallen the Kelso President who will also be looking for a result that can kick start Kelso’s season.

Marr’s 2nd XV are also playing at Fullarton and kick off at the earlier time of 2pm. Their visitors are GHA from Glasgow who sit mid table with two wins from four games. Marr have had a difficult start to the season in the reserve top division, however with a few players now available the 2nd XV head coach Keith Dunsmuir will be looking to getting some valuable points on the board.

Marr’s 3rd XV travel to play against Hamilton Bulls 3rd XV and are looking forward to a repeat performance on last week’s excellent result against Glasgow Accies.

Today we also host 160 Marr ladies and their guests for our annual LADIES DAY. We trust you all thoroughly enjoy yourselves in this fun filled event. A disco will be held later for all to enjoy.

Finally, whether you are a visiting supporter from Kelso or GHA, a neutral up to enjoy some high class rugby or a member of the purple and gold army, we hope that you have a great day enjoying the rugby action. We trust that Marr supporters will make our guests welcome and give the players and match officials a very good impression of our passion for rugby at Fullarton.

Stephen Allam, President

The squad is bolstered by the return of both Vice Captains. Mackenzie Pearce has completed concussion protocols and returns to the starting line-up at 7 in place of last week's man of the match Callum Steel who drops to the bench. Ross Miller returned late last night from 2 weeks in the States and will be looking to bring a big impact off the bench. The backline remains unchanged from last week with Scott Bickerstaff still being a week or 2 away from returning. Jack Scott will be looking to kick on from last week's excellent debut at Kirkcaldy
