Marr U16s blow Hutchesons away.
Good win for Marr in blustery conditions
Marr U16s entertained Hutchesons in a friendly match this weekend. Marr opted to play into the strong wind in the first half. However despite this Marr had the majority of the territory and ball.
Eventually Hutchesons gained some possession and after a number of close drives scored the first try which was converted. Marr came straight back at them and after the forwards won the lineout the backs created space for full back Brown to burst through. The try was converted by Beckwith to tie the score at 7 each.
Marr continued to control the game for the most part but could have been a bit tighter round the ruck. Hutchesons kept in the game with some strong counter rucking. There was no further score in the first half so the teams went into their huddles all square.
Marr made full use of the wind advantage in the second half and pinned Hutchesons back with some excellent kicking. From a penalty to the corner the forwards drove for a couple of phases before the ball was released to the backs and Ryan Brown went over for his second try, again converted by Beckwith.
Marr had the upper hand now and from a quick tap penalty Scott McDonald burst though for Marr's third try, the conversion this time coming back off the upright. Ryan Brown then completed his hat trick after fielding a twenty two dropout on the half way line and running past a number of defenders to touch down. Scott Grassom obliged with the conversion to extend Marr's lead to 26 -7.
To their credit Hutchesons came back and after a quick tap penalty drove over for a consolation score which made the final score 26 -12 to Marr. A good result for Marr as they continue to play a number of the Glasgow private schools over the coming weeks.
